Melasma also known as pregnancy mask or chloasma. Multiple brown hyper pigmented marks commonly seen symmetrically across the cheeks & on nose, Also seen sometimes on forehead & around the eyes which gives appearance of the mask. Pregnant women are most commonly affected. Non pregnant women and men are also affected occasionally. Very common in female but can be seen in males also. Generally this can be seen in between the age of 25-50.
The exact cause of melasma is yet not known. Dark patches in melasma could be triggered by various factors, including pregnancy, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy (HRT and progesterone), family history of melasma, race, antiseizure medications, and other medications that make the skin more prone to pigmentation after exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light.
Melasma doesn't cause any other symptoms besides skin discoloration but may be of great cosmetic concern.
A uniform brown color is usually seen over the cheeks, forehead, nose, or upper lip. It is most often symmetrical (matching on both sides of the face).
But
Though melasma is essentially an external disorder, ie, it deals with the skin of the human being however the core understanding of homeopathy reveals that the actual cause is internal and hence homeopathy targets to treat the problem from the root. The treatment is as per the patient’s physical and mental condition and the internal treatment at times is directed to assist healing in the affected area.
Homeopathy tries to carry out the treatment with minimal dosage that stimulates the body of the patient. Though the exact cause is not always known but homeopathy is considered to be one of the most effective ways of treating for melasma.
